Summer Time in McMurdo

Hi everyone,
I just made it back from the Central Transantarctic Mountain (CTAM) field camp, and I'm now back at McMurdo. I will write more about CTAM later. I didn't update while I was down there because we didn't have internet access.

I just checked the weather and realized that McMurdo Antarctica is only 5 degrees colder than Miami right now. It's 41 degrees F in Miami and 36 degrees F in McMurdo. Livonia, Michigan is much colder than both places at 24 degrees F right now. It's really starting to feel like summer here in McMurdo!

Dear Eric,
Yes, we noticed that our temperature is colder than yours! We put this information on our comment last week.
We went on GoogleEarth trying to find McMurdo. When we typed in "McMurdo", GoogleEarth did not take us to McMurdo. But, we went on the McMurdo website and we copied and pasted McMurdo's latitude and longitude, GoogleEarth took us directly to McMurdo. So now we know exactly where you are!
By the way, we think McMurdo looks a little bit like the Dry Valleys, but with a lot of buildings. Is this true, or does McMurdo look like the Dry Valleys because the weather is warmer?
Welcome back to Internet access land!

Hi Eric,
My name is Dahvi. I am in the 5th grade. In our bible class we learned about a desert, but it was the kind with hot sand and sun. I think that it is really cool that you are in Antarctica.
Is it fun there? Do you have any games that you like to play down there? Do you have to share a tent? At camp, when I went on a camping trip I had to share a tent with 7 girls. I hope that you are more comfortable than I was. What kinds of food do you eat? Do you like them? Have you seen a lot of animals like penguins?
I hope that you have time to write me back!!

Dear Eric,
Today is our last day before vacation, so this is our last post.
Thank you for all the information you posted about Antarctica. Your pictures and interesting comments made Antarctica come alive for us. We learned that there are deserts and grass in Antarctica, that penguins go on land where you were, that you use a huge red bus for transportation, that you can fly to Antarctica from New Zealand or from Chile depending on where you want to end up in Antarctica, and that Antarctica is sometimes warmer than where we live! We learned about the way you lived, ate, and slept on snow. We learned about how you and other scientists keep Antarctica very clean. We learned all the ways you keep warm in such a cold environment, and that the food was good, even though the chocolate chip cookies left something to be desired, (which Mrs. Radner still finds difficult to believe!) We followed you on GoogleEarth and saw your latitude and longitude. We compared you with Laura Ingalls Wilder and we consider you a pioneer just like she was. We think it's interesting that there are some science experiments that can be conducted only in Antarctica, and we hope your experiments were successful. We hope you come to our class some day so we can meet you in person. Thank you for sharing this once-in-a-lifetime experience with us!

Hi Dahvi. Thanks for the questions. I'll try to answer them in some entries on the main page.

Hi Mrs. Radner's class. Thanks again for all of the questions and feedback. I will give you a heads up when I make plans to visit Michigan. It would be great to show you some pictures and talk about my experience here. As of right now I'm not sure when I will make it that far north.
